About the Authors
John Charles Chasteen is Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the author of several books on Latin American history, including Born in Blood: The Lost Secrets of Spain's Conquest of the Americas and Americanos: Latin America's Struggle for Independence.
Jeffrey Lesser is Professor of History at Emory University. He is the author of several books on Latin American history, including A Nation of Immigrants: Mexico City in the Age of Revolution and Negotiating National Identity: Immigrants, Minorities, and the Struggle for Ethnicity in Brazil.
