Long Time Coming: Reckoning with Race in America
In her powerful and thought-provoking book, Long Time Coming, Michelle Alexander argues that the United States is still struggling to confront its racist past and present. She examines the ways in which racism continues to shape our institutions and our society, from the criminal justice system to the education system to the economy. Alexander also offers a vision for how we can move forward and create a more just and equitable society.
Alexander begins by exploring the history of racism in the United States, from its roots in slavery to its modern manifestations in mass incarceration and police brutality. She shows how racism has been used to justify discrimination and violence against Black people for centuries, and how it continues to have a devastating impact on their lives today.

Alexander then examines the ways in which racism is embedded in our institutions. She shows how the criminal justice system is biased against Black people, from the way they are arrested and charged to the way they are sentenced and imprisoned. She also shows how the education system fails to provide Black children with the same opportunities as white children, and how the economy discriminates against Black workers.
Alexander's analysis is both damning and illuminating. She provides a clear and concise account of the problem of racism in America, and she offers a powerful call to action. She argues that we must all work together to dismantle the racist structures that continue to plague our society, and to create a more just and equitable future for all.
Long Time Coming is an essential read for anyone who wants to understand the problem of racism in America. It is a powerful and thought-provoking book that will change the way you think about race and its impact on our society.
