Early Life and Military Training

Anders Lassen was born in Denmark in 1920, the son of a renowned military officer. From a young age, Lassen exhibited an adventurous spirit and a keen interest in the military. Following the outbreak of World War II, he joined the Danish army and quickly rose through the ranks.

Recognizing his exceptional abilities, Lassen was handpicked for training with the British Special Air Service (SAS). Here, he honed his skills in unconventional warfare, sabotage, and guerrilla tactics. His exceptional proficiency in these areas earned him a reputation as one of the SAS's most capable and formidable operatives.

World War II and the Norwegian Campaign

With the invasion of Norway by Nazi Germany, Lassen found his true calling. As part of a small SAS team, he parachuted into occupied territory with the mission of establishing contact with local resistance groups and harassing German forces.

Lassen's leadership and tactical brilliance were instrumental in the success of the Norwegian campaign. He led daring raids behind enemy lines, disrupting supply lines, sabotaging key installations, and providing invaluable intelligence to Allied forces. His actions earned him widespread recognition and the admiration of his fellow soldiers.

The Victoria Cross

In one particularly audacious operation, Lassen and his team attacked a heavily fortified German outpost, overwhelming the enemy and capturing a strategic bridge. During the intense firefight, Lassen exposed himself to enemy fire to recover the body of a fallen comrade. For his conspicuous bravery and leadership, he was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military honor for valor in the British forces.

Post-War Career and Legacy

After the war, Lassen returned to Denmark and continued his military service. He played a key role in the establishment of the Danish Special Forces and served as its commander for several years. He also authored several books on military tactics and leadership, sharing his vast knowledge and experience with future generations of soldiers.

Anders Lassen's legacy extends far beyond his wartime exploits. His unwavering determination, exceptional leadership abilities, and selfless dedication to duty have made him an enduring symbol of military excellence. His life and story continue to inspire and motivate soldiers and civilians alike, reminding us all that even in the face of adversity, courage and perseverance can triumph.

Anders Lassen VC MC was a true military hero whose extraordinary life and accomplishments continue to resonate with us today.
