The Wall and the Gate is a powerful and moving account of the American Civil Rights Movement. Author David Garrow tells the story of the movement through the eyes of three individuals: Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Garrow paints a vivid portrait of King, the charismatic leader who inspired a nation to hope for a better future. He also delves into the complex and often troubled life of Malcolm X, a fiery advocate for black nationalism. And he explores the political machinations of President Johnson, who played a key role in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The Wall and the Gate is a deeply researched and beautifully written book that sheds new light on one of the most important periods in American history. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the Civil Rights Movement or the human struggle for freedom.
