Cocktails to Celebrate Women's Right to Booze
Raise a glass to the women who fought for our right to drink
In 1920, the United States passed the 18th Amendment, which prohibited the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcoholic beverages. This law, known as Prohibition, was a disaster for the country. It led to a rise in organized crime, bootlegging, and speakeasies. It also made it difficult for people to enjoy a simple glass of beer or wine with dinner.
Women were particularly hard hit by Prohibition. They were not allowed to drink in public places, and they were often denied service at bars and restaurants. But the women of the time were not about to give up their right to drink. They organized protests, they lobbied Congress, and they even went on strike.
In 1933, the 18th Amendment was repealed, and the United States finally ended Prohibition. This was a victory for women, and it was a victory for the country as a whole. Today, we can enjoy a cocktail in peace, thanks to the women who fought for our right to drink.
This book is a celebration of women's right to drink. It features 50 delicious cocktails, each one named after a woman who played a role in the fight for Prohibition. So raise a glass to these amazing women, and enjoy a cocktail in their honor.
Here are just a few of the cocktails you'll find in this book:
- The Suffragette
- The Roaring Twenties
- The Speakeasy
- The Repeal
